Panopticon (Greek: panoptes- "all-seeing"), a prison project

In 1785, Jeremy Bentham designed an interesting prison model. The purpose of this prison was to create a feeling of constant surveillance over the prisoners. Although the prisoners cannot see the tower in this prison, each of which consists of octagonal sections, all the sections can be easily observed from the tower. Unaware of when their behavior was being observed, prisoners had to monitor their movements at all times. Bentham thought that this idea would lead to the strengthening of social welfare. Micheal Foucault thought that the Panopticon was the main factor of modern power. He saw the expansion of observation as the foundation of development. When I read about this project, I thought of George Orwell's 1984: "A project that constantly observes people and has power over them, even taking away their personal zone. Although it may sound strange to some of us, according to Byung-Chul Khan, it is not the end of the panopticon , we are experiencing the beginning of a new panopticon.Like social media where we willingly allow ourselves to be observed...
